Ice imaging in aircraft anti-icing fluid films using polarized light

نویسندگان

چکیده

During qualification endurance tests of aircraft de−/anti-icing fluids, their failure is evaluated by a naked-eye visual inspection and occasionally poking freezing areas with toothpick. For ice detection improvement, image processing techniques have been developed in the visible infrared spectra. Such issues low contrast or combining inspection. Here we show how to enhance spectrum using birefringence polarized light reflection. The method can be used for both automatic systems.

Study the effect of nano Al2O3 and nano graphene ceramic additives on the aircraft anti-icing/de-icing fluids

In the present study, the effect of nano Al2O3 and nano graphene ceramic additives in optimizing performance and improving thermophysical properties of aircraft anti-icing/de-icing fluids was investigated. Nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, SEM and XRD methods. The thermal conductivity, surface tension and dynamic viscosity of the hybrid nanofluids were experimentally assessed for tempera...

Biocidal properties of anti-icing additives for aircraft fuels.

The biocidal and biostatic activities of seven glycol monoalkyl ether compounds were evaluated as part of an effort to find an improved anti-icing additive for jet aircraft fuel. Typical fuel contaminants, Cladosporium resinae, Gliomastix sp., Candida sp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and a mixed culture containing sulfate-reducing bacteria were used as assay organisms. Studies were carried out over...

Anti-icing superhydrophobic coatings.

We use nanoparticle-polymer composites to demonstrate the anti-icing capability of superhydrophobic surfaces and report direct experimental evidence that such surfaces are able to prevent ice formation upon impact of supercooled water both in laboratory conditions and in natural environments. We find that the anti-icing capability of these composites depends not only on their superhydrophobicit...
